Dada & Fluxus
Dada Zine
The first Dada magazine was launched in 1921 by Hungarian artist and poet Tristan Tzara, who published eight groundbreaking issues filled mostly with verbal experiments.
Nearly a century later (99 years to the month), Ed Varney picked up where Tzara left off, publishing Dada 9 as a continuation of the original series.
Ed’s Dada editions mix collage, text, and absurd juxtapositions, keeping alive the movement’s playful defiance of convention. Issues 13 and 14 are now in the works.

Art Money: $5 Fluxus Bucks
Ed didn’t just make art, he put it into circulation. He mailed out hundreds of these cheeky $5 Fluxus Bucks to his Mail Art Network, inviting people to doodle on them, collage over them, or completely transform them. The rules? Spend it, share it, give it away, or send it back for an exchange and even more Fluxus Bucks. About 100 people joined in, returning bills that had been turned into one-of-a-kind works of art.

Ray Johnson Artistamp Sheet
Ed Varney created a special sheet of Artistamps as a playful tribute to Ray Johnson.
Often called the “father of Mail Art,” Johnson (1927–1995) blurred the line between art and everyday life. He filled envelopes with drawings, wordplay, and witty instructions, sparking an international network of creativity that Ed is still a part of today.
